Taneytown
Georges on York
When Sharon and Chris Tillman bought 10 York Street, they discovered a curious detail about the place. Four of the historic home’s past owners had been named George. That led to the moniker, and unifying theme, of their bed-and-breakfast. All five guest rooms, like the Motter and Miss Elizabeth, take their inspiration from previous inhabitants. As a way to honor Taneytown’s modern-day citizens, Gallery Ten is open to guests and the general public. The inn hosts regular events in the space to connect visitors and the community. Breakfast is a three-course meal made from scratch with locally-sourced ingredients. —Southern Living Magazine, The Local’s Guide, Dec 2023

Celebrate Gettysburg: Movers & Shakers
We appeared in the September/October 2020 issue of Celebrate Gettysburg. The issue featured several “movers and shakers” from the area who had realized their dream after 40. Being able to tell our story, and hopefully inspire someone to follow their dream — whatever that is — means so much to us. Now we feel that with a few years of operating the inn behind us we can help others take their leap. (Article correction, we did open July 9 2018, not 2019.)

Taneytown innkeepers giving back to military personnel as part of national initiative, ‘a no-brainer’
Georges on York, a bed and breakfast establishment in downtown Taneytown, is rich with history that has ties to the Civil War.
George Motter, who worked for the Union army as an assistant surgeon during the war, is credited with building the structure on 10 York Street that houses Chris and Sharon Tillman’s inn. The couple bought the home in 2017 and turned it into a full-service bed and breakfast that features five guest rooms, a kitchen, and an art gallery.
Sharon Tillman’s family has a longstanding military background, she said, and her sister is a retired Army colonel. So when opportunities arise that allow Georges on York to give back to the community, and help service members at the same time, the Tillmans don’t hesitate.
That’s why they’re involved in an effort called Inn Support of Our Troops, which helps deliver care packages to service members overseas. More than 30 inns across the country are participating, and an assortment of goodies made it out to be delivered July 4.
